Astronomy Fun Fact #95

Writer's picture: Moiya McTierMoiya McTier

As of 2019, the heaviest thing humans have ever launched into space is the Saturn V rocket, which carried the Apollo Lunar Module.

Saturn V itself was more than 350 long and weighed more than 6,500,000 pounds! And it was powerful enough to carry an additional 300,000 pounds with it into space!

That's a HUGE rocket, and we haven't launched anything that large since 1969

Your last statement is not quite accurate. We launched 6 more of those between 69 and 72. And the last three, in addition to what the first 4 carried, carried a lunar rover!
