Astronomy Fun Fact #35

Yesterday was the annual Eurovision Song Contest. In typical Eurovision fashion, the contestants performed in front of truly impressive graphics, but one was more interesting to me than all the others.

This image behind Australia's performer shows the Horesehead Nebula, one of the most recognizable space images first discovered by Williamina Flemming. The Horsehead Nebula is about 1400 light years away.

This means that the graphic designers who worked on their performance used ACTUAL space data! And as an extra perk, their song was called "Zero Gravity"
