Astronomy Fun Fact #26

There is gravity in space! If there weren't, the Moon wouldn't go around the Earth and the Earth wouldn't orbit the Sun.


But why do things appear to float in space? It's because they're falling. When you're orbiting around something like the Earth, you're basically constantly falling and failing to hit the ground. Astronauts look like they're floating around space stations because everything is falling at the same rate.


The correct term for the gravitational state in space is "microgravity"
